Frequently Asked Questions

How does the grip work on the mid-calf sock profile?

Our Infinite Shock dance socks feature patented, refreshable grip technology on the ball of the foot.

Our grip offers a revolutionary approach to traction. Unlike traditional dance shoes with fixed grip, Apolla's patented grip is customizable, allowing dancers to control challenging dance moves.

Here's how it works:

Initial Grip: The grip starts strong and sticky. This allows you to experience maximum traction from the moment you put them on. *Note: always email us if there is not strong resistance from the start!

Break-In Period: After a few uses, the grip will naturally wear down to your preferred level of traction allowing you to turn and glide smoothly. This break-in period allows you to personalize the grip to your individual dance style and the type of floor you dance on.

Grip Location: It's important to note that for The Performance Shock (and The Infinite sock profiles), the grip is located only on the ball of the foot, allowing for a combination of grip and freedom for pirouettes and control challenging technique. This differs from our AMP no-show profile, that has grip on the ball of the foot and heel strategically positioned to mimic a jazz shoe.

Refreshing the Grip: Once the grip has worn down to your liking, you can refresh it using our E6000 spray adhesive. This non-toxic spray reactivates the grip, allowing you to maintain your desired level of traction for the life of the sock.

Customization: You have complete control over your grip! If you prefer a stickier feel, refresh the grip more often. If you prefer less grip, allow the socks to wear down further before refreshing. Some dancers even use rosin, spray rosin, or hairspray for different levels of grip.

This process allows you to tailor the grip to your specific needs. You'll experience the perfect balance of control and freedom, whether you're turning, sliding, or performing any other movement.

Remember, it's essential to purchase the E6000 spray adhesive to refresh your grip and ensure optimal performance. Check out our Understanding Our Grip page for more tips and information.

Are these hard to get on? How can I get them on easier?

Like many high compression socks or compression stockings, the Infinite Shock dance socks might feel snug initially, especially if you're new to compression socks for women or men. For easier application:

  • Inside-out method: Turn the sock inside out up to the heel. Insert your toes fully, then gently pull the sock over your heel and up your leg.
  • Fold-in-half method: Fold the sock lengthwise, insert your toes, and then gradually roll the sock up your leg.

Check out this page for all of our tips, tricks and hacks on How To Wear Apolla Socks.

And remember, if the size isn’t quite right, we offer free exchanges and returns.

How do I use these for recovery and reduce injury risk?

Post-workout game changers! Many athletes experience a temporary reduction in athletic performance, caused by muscle fatigue, delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), shin splints, edema, and various minor injuries.

Post-Injury/Surgery

Apolla Socks' targeted compression helps to speed up recovery time after ankle injuries like sprains or surgery by reducing swelling and promoting more efficient blood flow.

The mid-calf length of the Infinite Shock is ideal for recovery and often an easier height than the knee high.

It provides targeted compression to your feet, ankles, and calves—the areas most affected by fatigue and swelling after exercise or long periods of standing or sitting.

It also has medical-grade graduated compression up the calf which improves blood flow, aids in flushing out waste products like lactic acid, and reduces recovery time.

Some people also like that it is not as high as a knee high, and is better to wear in a boot and not have to fold it over.

How do these work on carpet at dance conventions?

The Infinite Shock non-traction version is perfect for carpet, giving a barefoot feel with added support. The mid calf design protects your feet from the carpeted concrete, which is terrible on the dancers bodies and increases the risk for overuse injuries. While the targeted compression reduces swelling and enhances recovery between long dance days.

Do these help sprained ankles, sesamoiditis, Achilles tendinitis, Sever's disease, hypermobility, POTS, lymphedema, and other inflammation-related pain?

Yes! Apolla Socks are designed to provide exceptional support and extra padding to protect the feet and provide pain relief for various foot and ankle conditions.

Here's how they can help:

Sever's Disease: Apolla Performance Shock socks are like MAGIC for our customers & young athletes who have 'tried everything' and are still suffering from Sever's Disease.

Targeted compression and a padded heel reduce stress on the heel's growth plate, providing relief and support.

The extra padding and compression arch support make these socks an excellent alternative to traditional heel cups or inserts, helping dancers, athletes, and active kids stay on their feet with less pain.

Sprained Ankles: Apolla Socks provide ankle support similar to an ankle brace, helping to stabilize the joint and uncomparable in reducing swelling.

Customers recovering from sprains have shared incredible testimonies about how getting our socks on right after a sprain not only helped them reduce pain but also helped them recover faster.

They can also help in reducing the risk of an ankle sprain or roll due to our high compression targeted where the 3 ligaments insert on the outer ankle, noting improved stability and reduced pain while dancing and engaging in other activities.

Neuropathy: Many customers report relief from neuropathy symptoms thanks to reduced pressure and improved circulation. However, it varies from person to person and depends on where your neuropathy is. For some it is miraculous, for others, it can aggravate it.

The Infinite Mid-Calf, Endurance Knee High, and The Performance Crew profiles are popular choices for neuropathy.

For additional compression, we recommend moving up to The Endurance our knee high compression stocking for full lower leg coverage.

Sesamoiditis: Apolla's targeted compression and arch support reduce pressure on the sesamoid bones, helping alleviate pain and promote healing.

Check out the reviews from customers to see how many suffering from sesamoiditis have found relief.

Achilles Tendinitis: The compression and support provided by Apolla Socks help reduce inflammation and promote healing of the Achilles tendon. Our socks have been life-changing for dancers in recovery from Achilles surgery, cutting down time sitting out.

Our mid-calf, knee-high, or crew profiles are especially popular for Achilles tendonitis relief.

POTS, Edema & Lymphedema: It is widely known that wearing compression socks helps enhance efficient circulation, and reduce the risk of blood clots, DVT, and varicose veins. The Infinite's medical-grade graduated compression (20-30 mmHg) helps improve blood flow, which can significantly reduce swelling and alleviate symptoms associated with POTS, edema, and lymphedema.
