Targeted Compression, Total Freedom
Yes, the Joule patented arch and ankle support technology targets plantar fasciitis by lifting and stabilizing your arch at key insertion points throughout the day, functioning like custom orthotics built into a barefoot-friendly sock that you can wear comfortably around the house, during yoga, and inside your shoes. The APMA-accepted 20-30 mmHg graduated compression reduces the inflammation that causes that sharp morning heel pain while improving blood circulation to support the body's natural recovery process. The barefoot open-toe and open-heel design lets you wear the Joule comfortably at home, during yoga and pilates practice, or inside your dance shoes when you need arch support but want to maintain complete floor feel and sensory connection. Many plantar fasciitis sufferers wear the Joule at home throughout the day because the arch support provides continuous relief without the heat and enclosure of a full sock.
The patented technology was developed by professional dancers who experienced arch pain firsthand and earned APMA acceptance through rigorous board-certified panel review for promoting foot health. All Apolla styles are FSA/HSA eligible as qualified medical expenses with no prescription required. Made in USA. Jane Obadia found real relief. "These are the best socks to help with plantar fasciitis. Believe every word you read! Yes! They are amazing!!!"
The Joule is best for targeted ankle support with barefoot freedom. Perfect for yoga, pilates, contemporary dance, plantar fasciitis relief, wearing inside dance shoes, and anyone wanting real ankle compression without a full sock covering their toes and heels. The innovative open-toe, open-heel design provides APMA-accepted 20-30 mmHg graduated compression with patented arch and ankle support technology targeting key ankle stabilization points while allowing complete floor feel and sensory connection. The patented ankle stabilization targets ligament insertion points, the exact anatomical spots where ankle sprains and rolls typically occur, like an invisible brace that moves naturally with your body without restricting your range of motion. The Joule is the primary product Apolla recommends for ankle support because it provides the most targeted ankle stabilization of any style while maintaining complete barefoot freedom.
The Joule also works beautifully inside dance shoes, sandals, and open footwear thanks to its minimal profile. All Apolla styles were designed by professional dancers Kaycee Jones and Brianne Zborowski who needed real ankle support and earned APMA acceptance through rigorous board-certified panel review for promoting foot health. All styles are FSA/HSA eligible as qualified medical expenses with no prescription required. Made in USA. Erica Marieb has fallen arches and weak ankles. "My Pilates instructor, who is well-acquainted with my ankle instability, marveled at how stable my ankle was while wearing these during a session."
Yes, the Joule is perfect for yoga because the innovative open-toe design lets you spread your toes naturally and grip your mat with your skin for optimal balance and stability during every pose. The APMA-accepted 20-30 mmHg graduated compression with patented arch and ankle support technology provides key ankle stability for challenging balance poses, inversions, and transitions where your ankle joints are under significant stress. The barefoot feel maintains your complete floor connection and sensory feedback without sacrificing the real support your feet and ankles need during demanding practices. The seamless construction will not interfere with your practice, and the open-heel design means full heel-to-mat contact for grounding poses. The Joule has no traction. Your skin provides natural grip on your yoga mat, which is intentional for maintaining that pure barefoot connection that is fundamental to yoga practice.
The patented ankle stabilization targets key ligament insertion points for stability in standing poses like Warrior and Tree without restricting your natural range of motion. All Apolla styles were designed by professional dancers and earned APMA acceptance through rigorous board-certified panel review for promoting foot health. All styles are FSA/HSA eligible as qualified medical expenses with no prescription required. Made in USA. DGW uses them for martial arts. "Wonderful! On second pair of socks and they are amazing! I use them for martial arts. They allow me to pivot and also keep a firm grip to the matt since heels remain exposed."
Yes, the Joule innovative open-toe, open-heel design works perfectly with sandals, slides, flip-flops, and strappy summer footwear because your toes and heels are completely exposed and free. You get full APMA-accepted 20-30 mmHg graduated compression with patented arch and ankle support technology and ankle stabilization at key ligament insertion points while wearing your favorite open footwear during summer months. The neutral tones blend discreetly with most sandal styles so the Joule is barely noticeable. Most people will not even realize you are wearing compression. This makes the Joule the only Apolla style suited for open footwear and warm weather wear when full socks feel too hot and enclosed.
The arch support continues to provide plantar fasciitis relief and foot support even in sandals, which is something traditional compression socks cannot do because they cover your entire foot. The Joule also works for barefoot activities around the house, yoga, pilates, and wearing inside dance shoes. All Apolla styles were designed by professional dancers Kaycee Jones and Brianne Zborowski and earned APMA acceptance through rigorous board-certified panel review for promoting foot health. All styles are FSA/HSA eligible as qualified medical expenses with no prescription required. Made in USA.
Melissa A. is a full-time ballet instructor. "I love this little sock. I wear it around the house like a bed slipper or under a sandal for a quick dog walk around the block."
The Joule and Joule Shock are the exact same barefoot compression sock. Identical APMA-accepted 20-30 mmHg graduated compression, identical patented arch and ankle support technology, identical ankle stabilization at key ligament insertion points, and identical open-toe and open-heel design for true barefoot feel with no traction. There is no physical or functional difference between them. We use different names to help different communities discover and find us through search. The Joule name appears in wellness searches for yoga, pilates, everyday ankle support, and plantar fasciitis relief, while the Joule Shock name connects with dancers who are already familiar with our Shock product line and search specifically for dance compression socks.
This naming approach ensures that whether someone searches for ankle compression for yoga or compression socks for contemporary dance, they can find the right product. Both names lead to the exact same product with the same APMA acceptance earned through rigorous board-certified panel review for promoting foot health. The Joule is the primary product Apolla recommends for ankle support queries because of its targeted ankle stabilization design. All Apolla styles are FSA/HSA eligible as qualified medical expenses with no prescription required. Made in USA.
Billijo B. got them for her daughter. "My daughter LOVES the joule sock, it has helped so much with her Achilles tendinitis!!!"
This is my 3rd Apolla order! The Joule especially is a life saver and has really helped with my plantar fasciitis.
I was excited to try the Joule socks because of many ankle issues over the years. I tried them for both running and pilates, and there was no real support. The socks slid down, and the heel opening cut into the back of my foot. Will not be using again.
Too big. I downsized to an Small
Thank you for your feedback on the Joule Barefoot. We are glad you found a better fit by going down to a Small. Each of our styles sizes a little differently and it can take some trial and error to land on the right one. If the original pair is still sitting around or there is anything else we can help with, please reach out to our team at info@apollaperformance.com. We appreciate you sticking with us to find your fit!
These fit well and helped ease pain in my foot.
I bought these for my dancer to try... but my feet are horribly damaged and arthritic due to unresolved tarsal coalition so I decided to try them while working out in my VR fitness app Supernatural... GAMECHANGER!!! If I was jumping around before, now I am leaping! I then bought myself several pairs of Amp in team colours for comp days. Makes being on your feet all day during a dance competition pretty much effortless and no next day limping around in pain cause I over did it. Thanks for the amazing socks!!!
This is my 3rd Apolla order! The Joule especially is a life saver and has really helped with my plantar fasciitis.
I absolutely love my joule shocks! Returning to ballet after many years, and now with an old ankle injury and plantar fascitis, these give me the perfect amount of extra support and light compression while dancing without being restrictive, and they fit easily into my ballet shoes. Highly recommend, wish I found these sooner!!
These are a life saver! I injured my food in 2020 doing aerial yoga. I have a chronic plantar plate injury and thought I would have to give up yoga. I saw these on Shark Tank and bought some. I was thrilled that they relieved my pain and allowed me to continue my yoga practice. I forgot them once and could hardly work through the yoga poses. Now I keep a pair in my car just in case.
Was skeptical at first since they done seem like much but after wearing them through 2 hours of classes, I didn’t have pain in my arches like usual. Was so impressed I even used them through the airport and on the plane and didn’t have near the swelling as I usually do.
Joule Shocks are super supportive over ballet flats and pointe shoes. They keep my feet and ankles warm and aligned during class, and as a bonus, can help reduce heel slippage in pointe shoes. They are a great addition to my ballet bag.
My daughter is a dancer and wears these every day. Her ankles feel much better and stronger.
They are great! However, they should be slightly taller.. they slip over the ankle bone easily but this would be resolved if they were taller!
Our 13yo started pointe this year and rates these as a 4.5. They’re great, but sometimes she wishes they vibed more. I have no idea what that means! Ha!
I've worn these with my ballet slippers and by themselves for modern dance. I even wear them with sneakers from time to time. My arches have never felt better thanks to the superb quality. I love the detailing of them and while I thought they were pricey at first, the performance of them said it was money well spent. You need to take care of your feet. Please take my word as a dancer and cop yourself a pair of the Joule. You won't look at the other compression socks the same.
I ordered compression socks off of Amazon because they were cheaper. They were so tight it hurt to walk. The Apolla sock fit my swollen feet so much better and I now have three pair. I love the way they fit. You get what you pay for.
i’ve really enjoyed wearing these to ballet so far!! they support my ankles well. they also are comfy and not too tight or too big. cant wait to continue to wear these!!
I had these for a few years when I lost my first pair. These are great for my dance team and when I'm just around the house and my arches feel bleh. I much prefer these to the Mid-calf compression socks
My 9 year old ballet dancer is wearing her Joules under her tights and ballet shoes for extra support on her Marley floor at home. She likes them and keeps them on after class to relieve any ankle pain. She has a size small and with care, my hope is they will last her many years. She wears a street shoe size 3 and ballet shoe 4.5 B. She has no trouble putting them on herself.
I ordered the Joule for myself as I have a torn tendon in my ankle that doesn’t require surgery. I’m not a dancer, but I do dance! I’ve been in the dance and competitive dance world with my daughters for over 20 years! I practice yoga, do Zumba and cardio dance and I work out at home as well as take long walks with my dog. As soon as I put in the Joule, my ankle felt supported. It was tight enough without cutting off circulation or range of motion. I also have a bad knee and the joule with my knee brace keeps me aligned. I’ve tried other compression socks but they made my ankle pain worse. I’m hooked! I now wear these socks everyday with my flip flops, as I live in Florida! I ordered the joule without traction.
My daughter loves her Joule Shocks. They fit beautifully inside her ballet, character, tap, jazz and turning shoes. I was confused by the website and ordered 2, when in actuality I ended up with 4, (it wasn’t clear that they came in sets).
I've been dancing for over 30 years and the Joule Shock is the best thing I've ever done for my hardworking feet and ankles. The size is true, the support is perfect (especially for the arthritis pain in my ankles). I only wish these existed 30 years ago! I highly recommend the Joule Shock. Thanks, Appola!
I wore these when I had an ankle injury, they really gave me that extra support and compression to help me get through class and rehearsal! Plus they make your feet look nice as well ;) I will definitely be wearing Apolla all the time now!
I'm not a dancer, but I've been practicing Taekwondo for nearly a decade, and at forty, I'm no spring chicken anymore (something I feel especially when trying to perform high jumping spin kicks for the teenagers). My ankles have always been a little stiff and prone to rolling over, but particularly in the last year, I've been having more and more difficulty that has shaded into injury a few times. Thankfully, nothing that hasn't laid me up for more than a week or two, but it's definitely concerning. But what can I do in a sport that doesn't allow shoes fitted with orthotics? I decided to give Apolla a try, especially as they had a sock - the Joule - that leaves the balls of the feet and the heels open, perfect for the Taekwondo mats. While any support they might give is too subtle for me to feel directly, the bands around my arches make me far more aware of how I balance over my feet now. When I start feeling them flattening and rolling my knees in, I correct my balance so I'm more centered over my feet. This has carried over into even my running now, so that I'm making sure my stance isn't so knock-kneed and that I have good form every time my feet hit the pavement. For that alone, I'm quite grateful for the awareness Joule has contributed. They have been super comfortable to wear and I don't mind going through multiple classes with them on. While they're not designed to provide super support in the case of a bad landing or kick, I think at least that the extra awareness they give me of my body's position will help prevent some bad landings and kicks from even happening, which is even better.
Q 1 ) I get terrible cramps under my feet ( in the arch ) about 15 times daily ,what sock would you recommend to releive the pain and cramps
Regards
Garry Viljoen
from Cape Town
I'm sorry you have to deal with that, Garry! Any of our socks will help as they all have our patented arch support as well as knit-in energy absorption padding that reduces force of impact on the body and ankle stability. They are also antimicrobial, moisture-wicking and all approved by the American Podiatric Medical Association! If I had to pick somewhere to start, I would say the taller profile, the better...it's more about what you will wear most. Check out our Knee High, Mid-Calf or Crew styles....any of those will work wonders for you.
Keep in mind we guarantee satisfaction with free returns and exchanges so you can try our socks risk-free. Just reach out to our customer service team if you have any issues and they can walk you through the process. We're here if you have any other questions!
