Hi my name is Anthea Young. I am a dancer and choreographer based in Los Angeles, California. I am a faculty member on the Dupree Dance Convention and I travel a lot for work. Speaking of travel, the Holidays are coming up quickly. Tis the season of connecting with your loved ones and spending quality time with them, but getting to to them can be some of the most anxious and stressful moments. How can we create peace and ease while getting to our destination?
Here are some simple things to help ease your travel concerns:
Feeling anxious: try box breathing. Close your eyes, inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts, exhale for 8. This stimulates your vagus nerve which will activate your parasympathetic system which then causes a calm & relaxed feeling.
Mentality: include simple affirmations during these times that support your personal experience. Some of my favorites are: “everything is happening for me” “ I am safe” “I will get where I am going when I am suppose to” “Everyone around me is doing their best right now in this moment” Another tip is, list 3 things you are grateful for in that moment when a reaction wants to take over.
Travel Checklist: create a list of all the things you need to pack or to do so you can visually see the items checked off. It gives so much ease when you can look back on that list and reassure yourself you have everything.
Pack early: complete your checklist two or even three days ahead of your scheduled travel date. This gives you the flexibility and room if there are any last minute things to do that weren’t planned for.
Arrive Early: give yourself time for lines. Lines at the check-in, lines at security, lines at the stores & restaurants.
Stay Warm: bring an extra layer or two. My favorite travel item is a Zara scarf that doubles as a blanket. It keeps me warm or rolls up, to support my neck for a quick nap.
Portable Lumbar support: ease your back pain with this self inflating compact travel pillow.
Refillable Water Bottle: fill it up at water stations after security or ask your flight attendant to fill it.
Electrolyte Packets: keep your body hydrated with LMNT packets that come in many yummy flavors.
Snacks: pack some of your favorite snacks in case of any unexpected delays to your travel. It’s like a little surprise your future self will be so grateful for.
Noise Cancellation Headphones: no better way to block out the engine sound and any other unwanted noise, so you can enjoy your favorite shows, music or podcasts.
Electronic Device: download all your current shows, podcasts, books, and playlists to enjoy on your journey to your destination and make time fly by.
Compression Socks: reduce swelling, increase circulation, and improve balance & alignment with Apolla Socks.
Try these things out, this travel season, to reduce your anxiety, to make sure you have all you need, and travel comfortably & with ease. Feel free to tag me to let me know what made a difference.
Happy Holidays!
