The new competition dance season is quickly approaching and with it many tasks to complete. To make it easier for everyone to be prepared for this season, we have created a checklist to tackle at the start of your dancer’s season. There are some things to do and some competition and convention essentials to buy. Let’s break it down step by step.
Booking hotels is first on the list. Hotels can fill up and prices can change so you want to book as far in advance as possible. You can always change your reservations, just make sure you know the cancellation rules prior to booking.
Keeping a clear calendar is next. You will receive tons of choreography and competition dates from the studio. Organizing it into your family calendar will help you from double booking or missing an important event!
Chances are your dancer's bag and makeup case might be untouched from the end of last season. It's time to dive in and clean them out! Throw away any empties or expired products and remove items you never actually used.
After you have cleared out the bag it is time to take inventory of the items and dance accessories you may need to purchase or replace, starting with the bag itself. Having an easy to use dance bag for your dancer can make your season worlds easier. You want to find a bag that fits all your items and can be set up quickly with a sturdy rack to hang your dancers costumes.
Next up is purchasing your costume care items. Before you get the new costumes for the season you will want to get garment bags and a great steamer. This will protect them and keep them looking fresh.
Hair and makeup items are a must, and they tend to run out quickly! Make certain you have bobby pins, hair ties, and hair nets that match your dancers hair color, along with a strong hairspray to help get it slicked. Your studio should provide a list of makeup required for the team stage look and now is the time to gather all those items. Start watching for sales and promotions on items you need to purchase so you can save a little when you do.
When it's time to remove everything from makeup to random stains on costumes, you will want to have wipes nearby! Makeup remover wipes for quick lip color changes, body wipes to freshen up between classes, and stain wipes for any mess that blemishes a costume. Either at the dance studio or a competition, you will never regret having extra wipes on hand.
The final item to check off the list is the most important. Dance shoes and socks are at the foundation of your dancer's craft for support and stability. Checking to see what shoes are worn out or outgrown is important as you start the season. Dance socks are still trending and Apolla compression socks are the best! The ankle support and energy absorption provided by Apolla shocks is the best way to ensure your dancer makes it through the entire season feeling their best! Keep a couple pairs in your dancers bag at the start of the season to ensure they have the protection they need all year.
Getting started on your pre season checklist will set you up for more fun and less stress in your dancers' coming competition season. For more tips and tricks on getting prepared check out Two Dance Moms Podcast!
